USS Comanche |

Not initially being a big fan of the Defiant’s design (something I’ve overcome in recent years), I thought I’d try customizing her into something else; the USS Comanche, long-range Borg Interceptor. I was nspired in part by the USS Monitor as described in William Shatner’s book ‘The Return’ as well as by earlier concept designs for the Defiant. As she was described in ‘The Return’, Monitor was “...little more than an armored command saucer with integral warp nacelles. Over-powered, densely shielded, excessively armed, carrying more weaonry than three Galaxy-class starships.” Comanche required the use of two Defiant models, a Star Wars Virago model, and multiple pieces from my spares box. The second Defiant model was basically sacrificed to create enlarged engine nacelles and chevron cutouts around the hull. Virago was used to create the larger weapons pods and additional buildup pieces. Even a spare pair of vents from a Klingon BoP were incorporated. Sometimes the challenge is knowing when and where to stop, which I may have failed to do. This model is considerably darker than these pics show. Gun Metal is the overall base color with a variety of black shades for accents. Image: Top/Left Front |
