Apollo 12

By Pete Malaguti

This is my Apollo 12 diorama with a scratchbuilt Surveyor unmanned spacecraft. This diorama depicts the Apollo 12 mission of November 1969, 40 years ago this year! One prime objective of the mission was to attempt to land with a high degree of accuracy. Needless to say, that objective was successful, as Commander Pete Conrad piloted the LM to within 600 feet of the target ( ... the Surveyor spacecraft which made a soft landing 2 years before).

I used the 1/48 Monogram Lunar Module and accurized and modified it heavily. I also used the New Ware resin and PE aftermarket LM update sets and New Ware's PE MESA (Modular Equipment Stowage Assembly) hanging off the LM's descent stage.

I've also included the mission photo of Pete Conrad standing beside the Surveyor on the moon which was my inspiration.
