This is the Adriatic, one of the few ships that managed to escape the initial Cylon attack. The Adriatic had been charged with carrying cargo for the Colonial Military between Fleet headquarters on Virgon and the shipyards orbiting Scorpia. The ship had not long departed from the orbit of Virgon when the Cylons jumped in and began bombarding the planet. Captain Areeso decided to halt the ship's journey and power down to minimum to try and go un noticed by the cylons. For several hours the ship sat in open space until found by Lt. Valerii. Joining the growing fleet collected by Laura Roslin the ship left with the rest of the fleet to rendezvous with the Battlestar Galactica. Being a military transport the Adriatic had a relatively small crew. With so many of the civilian vessels over crowded with refugees it was quickly decided that the ship's large cargo pods would be emptied (with the ships supplies re routed to Galactica) and converted to living space. Over five hundred people where transferred to the Adriatic with Captain Areeso suddenly finding himself as a community leader as well as captain! After several years on the run, the fleet reached a large star cluster which was far to large to navigate around. It was decided each ship of the fleet would be guided through the cluster by the Galactica's Raptor squadrons. With all the passenger and most of the crew temporarily moved to Galactica, the Adriatic attempted the crossing guided by Lt Costanza. Although the ship had a military grade guidance system, it failed and the crew scrambled to fix the problem, but it was to late. They had missed the vital coordinates needed to safely navigate. As the rest of the fleet jumped through the cluster, the Adriatic was pronounced lost. The majority of this model is build with sheet styrene. The engines are taken from a Warhammer kit with the side cannons taken from a Star Wars Republic Star Destroyer. Since the Adriatic is one of the few ships of the "rag tag fleet" mentioned to have weapons in the Battlestar Galactica tv show (plus its never actually seen), I figured it would be a good established name for this model. |
