Airfix Daleks

By Dean Newbold

This is one of my recent builds. It was my very first attempt at lighting a kit. You can probably see some of the wires poking out. The Airfix model is a great kit to practise this on. The Daleks were great fun to build. Some of the joins were a bit less than perfect, but otherwise good. I added some cables to the inside of the open Dalek. The Daleks each speak and flash their lights when you press their eye stalk. I had to insert a wire into the eye stalk as they break pretty easily.

Painting of the open Dalek was fun and based on the one in the museum if you know that episode. The bronze Dalek was a different story. I could not get a paint of the correct colour that would go on properly. The photos reveal the poor finish obtained. The hemispheres and their base rings were also a problem as the ring is on the body. It would have been much easier if it was on the hemisphere.

Lots of weathering went into the bronze dalek. I found that by rubbing the paint I was able to obtain a darker shade where desired.
