Pegasus II

By April Welles

This is a kitbashed paper model I thought I would share. It' s a ship in my Battlestar Olympia fan-fiction.

Backstory: The Olympia Survivor Fleet, after traveling for a little over 1 yahren, come upon the blasted remains of the Battlestar Pegasus. Scans show minimal energy readings and intermittent life scans. The Fleet finds that most of the crew is missing except for about 75 people, mostly Engineering crew. Colonel Tolan is in command. Cain is dead. Shortly after ordering his ship to light speed, Cain died from injuries caused during the massive attack by him destroying two Basestars, when some cannon fire from the Cylon Base Ships hit the Command Center. They have been barely surviving for the past 3 months.

The Olympia Fleet bring the survivors aboard the Olympia for medical attention and proceed to see what can be done to repair the destroyed battlestar. After much scanning and research the only real option they find open to them is to salvage what can be used from the Pegasus and scrap the rest.

During the salvage process it is found that they can repair one of the flight pods using parts from the other, plus additional parts within the massive ship herself. To make it worthwhile it needed to be able to move. Some engineers on board the Olympia as well as other ships within her Fleet--especially the Ilmasepp --felt they could scavenge parts from all over the 125 ship fleet for the engines.

Once the flight pod was completed the surviving crew of the Pegasus wanted--and were given permission--to honor the ship and her fallen commander so they painted the II and christened her.

Colonel Tolan was given command of her, and the few remaining Vipers that were left aboard the Pegasus were repaired and transferred to the Pegasus II becoming known as Cain Squadron (Obviously additional Vipers were transferred and a few built from scavenged parts to make a full flight).

The small squares all over the ship are panels replaced after all of the hull breaches from both turbolaser blasts from Raiders as well as kamikaze hits, and internal explosions. The ship flies "backwards" due, mainly, to the fact that the Landing Control Center above the landing bay was easily upgraded to include additional computers and hardware to make the new Command Center. Also, it helps keep Vipers from flying close to the engines when landing.

This model was built using parts from the Gearz Galactica cardstock model (beautiful kit), the light speed engine is from a X-wing cardstock model, and the maneuvering/sublight engines are from Gearz 1/400 Viper engines. I filled the opening with a drop of Elmer's and, once dry, painted the blue and then a dot of white to give the impression of being powered up.

The additional engineering structure came from the Gearz Galactica kit just re-purposed and repositioned. For example, the round crossbeams are from the top of the Galactica engine section but gluing the halves together.

The 'II' was hand painted as I felt they would do the same thing. They wouldn't spend too much time creating stencils and such. It would manly be the remaining crew doing a quick, nice job of painting the 'II' on the ship. Also, in the forward pylon I painted the edge black and drybrushed some silver on the edge to denote the section that was cut from the main ship using plasma cutters. The inner bulkhead was another re-purposed part from elsewhere on the kit.

I have had this design in my head for a few years. I found I was able to accomplish the design I wanted after building Gearz' kit, as well as finding other paper kits that seemed to work with the design.
