Millennium Falcon Cutaway

By Andrew Witts

I thought I would send along these pics of the AMT cutaway Millennium Falcon I finished a while ago. I first made the sides thinner as I made this model in 1980 and was always unhappy with the detail.

Due to lack of money, I had to make do with what I had hanging around the house: styrene sheets, brass wire and a few bits of kits I had hanging around. Plus LED sets - there are a few fibre optics here and there but it was all quite a squeeze. Quite a headache as everything inside the Falcon from then on does not fit. So I created steps in the main hold and the tunnel that goes to the cockpit is now on angle slightly. As I said there are a few fibre optics, but these are difficult to see with the old camera I have as the flash is to bright.

I added a scratchbuilt cockpit and gun turret with fibre optics. I used the Han and Chewie from the revell Falcon kit I have which I think works a little better than the ones in this kit.

I made a crude wire frame with the landing gear attached, with a few tea lights for a few of the photos, as the finished model is in flight (hanging from the ceiling normally).
